(Apostasy, Trials, and Misguidance)
(Apostasy, Trials, and Misguidance)
By Shaykh Abdu Al Rahman Muhyee Addin
Translated by Bin Saleh Journal
So, studying the religion of Islam, revising it, and teaching it are obligatory; otherwise, the religion will vanish. And vanish of faith is called Riddah (Apostasy). And, Riddah -we seek refuge from Allah- scholars of knowledge have revealed its rulings. It is to apostatize from Islam, not to accept it, and deny it after having it. And, Riddah (Apostasy) happens by speaking, believing, or acting. Also, Riddah and infidelity are dangerous matters. Many people were not serious regarding them because of ignorance and trials that existed, and because of showing false in a good image by the enemies of Islam, by people of freedom and corruption who are astray from the right path, and by seculars and liberals who are in fact some of Muslims' offspring; those were dazzled and turned away by the ruined lost immoral life of the west that has no good manners at all and that has no religion ruling it. Therefore, many suspicion occurred to them.
So, a Muslim might become infidel even though he says with his tongue: "There is no god but Allah," or he might also commit Kufr (infidelity) by believing these infidel atheist ways, and he thinks that saying the two testification word (Shahadatan) by tongue is enough without and intention to know its meaning, conditions, pillars, and obligations, and without making an effort to study it and teach it. Thus, this two testification word does not benefit him.
Allah The Exalted said: "They say with their tongues what is not in their hearts." (Fateh:11)
And, the prophet -honestly- said: "Be prompt in doing good deeds (before you are overtaken) by turbulence which would be like a part of the dark night. During (that stormy period) a man would be a Muslim in the morning and an unbeliever in the evening or he would be a believer in the evening and an unbeliever in the morning, and would sell his faith for worldly goods." (Sahih Muslim: 118)
Imam Nawawi said: "The meaning of the prophet's saying is urging to do good deeds before they become unable to be done because of many accumulated trials; those trials are just as the dark night that moon is not seen in it. And the prophet -peace and blessing be upon him- described a type of those strong trials, which is a man remains a believer at night then he becomes a disbeliever at morning, and vice versa. So, because of the bigness of trials, a human turns like that in one day. And Allah knows best."
I said: The truth of this is revealed now, which is severe trials. You see a man a believer but, on the contrary, he calls other than Allah and supplicates other than Him, or he equals between Islam and infidelity; he has no issue that a human becomes a secular Muslim, or a liberal Muslim, or calls to freedom of religion, or calls to types of infidelity and misguidance other than that.
